Dejavu!
2007 was a good year for Josiah Mizell of Teammizell. After the
dust settled on the Annual AMA Youth National Championship series , he was again
the overall champion, same as last year. Josiah is the first Youth to ever win
the series for 2 years. This years course was again a bit "soft" with
mostly very technical sections and not a lot of large obstacles. This kept the
scores low and made the competition very tight. Josiah won the event riding his
GasGas 280.
His twin brother Caleb, came in a respectable 4th place riding a
GasGas 125 in the same class. Younger brother David, took top honors riding in
the Advance class on his GasGas 280. Little brother Zeke (10 yrs) placed
3rd in the Youth C- class.
Cleveland Youth wins National Motorcycle Competition
Two Cleveland area youths win top honors in the 2006 Youth National
championship, becoming the first Texans to win the honor since the conception of
the competition.
Each year the Youth National Championship series for Observed Motorcycle
Trials competition is held during the 4th of July week, with young athletes
traveling from all parts of the United States to partake in the competition held
in the mountains of Tennessee. With several days of training sessions preceding
the series-competition, many of the young riders spend their week wrestling the
motorcycles through the tough terrain in the Sequatchie Valley located near
Chattanooga preparing themselves for the 3 day series.
Balance and technique are used to manipulate the bike over the rouged, slick,
and sometimes wet rocks in a narrow area designated for the section. Any time a
foot touches the ground a negative point is received by the rider and at the end
of the day, the low score wins.
Lots of practice gave the Mizell twins opportunity to show their talent and
bring home 1st place in each respective class, Caleb winning the 14 year old
class, and Josiah winning the overall open-class championship.
Caleb Mizell rode his gasgas 280cc trials motorcycle in the 14 yr old class
and was able to finish 1st on all three days by a comfortable margin.
Josiah rode in the open class against boys age through 16 , and was able to
place 1st, on day one, 4th on day two, and 1st again, on day three, winning the
series by a narrow margin!
Both boys will be honored at the annual AMA Amateur Championship Banquet in
Las Vegas this year in November, along with top amateur champions of other
motorcycle sports. As far as we know , Josiah and Caleb are the only twins
currently competing in observed Motorcycle Trials.
They are also riding the AMA national series in the high-school class and are
in close podium position. The last 2 rounds of the series are scheduled in Rhode
Island, August 23-24th.
